Composting Fun in Our Bush Tucker Garden

Composting Fun in Our Bush Tucker Garden

At Aussie Adventures Child Care & Kindergarten, children have been getting their hands dirty (in the best way!) as we explored composting and worms in our Bush Tucker Garden. It has been such a fun and meaningful way to connect with nature while learning how we can all care for our environment.

 Why Composting is Important

  • Reduces waste – Food scraps don’t end up in the bin but are given a second life.
  • Helps the worms – Worms love munching on our scraps, and in return they make rich, healthy soil.
  • Nourishes our plants – Compost turns into “garden gold,” helping our plants grow strong and healthy.
  • Teaches sustainability – Children learn that small actions, like saving food scraps, can make a big difference for our world.

What We’ve Been Doing

  • The children enjoyed spinning the compost bin, watching how scraps break down over time.
  • We talked about what foods worms love and how they help us by creating healthy soil.
  • Children explored how rubbish can become something useful, rather than waste.
  • Through hands-on play, they developed an understanding of caring for Country and respecting the environment.

Every laugh, curious question, and muddy hand reminds us that composting isn’t just about food scraps—it’s about teaching respect, care, and connection with the earth.
