There’s something very special about watching children grow up around animals, and here at Aussie Adventures Child Care & Kindergarten, our mini farm is a much-loved part of everyday life.
Our children have the opportunity to spend time with a wonderful mix of animals, including:
🦙Alpacas – learning to be calm, gentle and respectful around larger animals
🐑Sheep – observing their behaviour and learning about caring for farm animals
🐎Horse – developing confidence while learning how to safely interact with a much larger animal
🐐Goat – plenty of curiosity, laughter and hands-on learning
🐥Mixed birds – discovering different birds, their sounds, eggs, feathers and behaviours
🦎Reptiles – learning that animals come in all shapes and sizes and each has different needs
🐠Fish – observing aquatic life and understanding the importance of caring for living things
More Than Just Looking at Animals
Having children around animals provides so many opportunities for hands-on learning, animal husbandry and developing responsibility.
Through caring for our animals, children can learn:
- How to approach animals safely and respectfully
- That animals need food, water, shelter and care every day
- Empathy, kindness and compassion towards living things
- Patience and gentle behaviour
- Responsibility and helping with age-appropriate animal care
- An understanding of where food and farm products come from
- How animals behave, communicate and interact with their environment
- Confidence when engaging with animals of different sizes and personalities
Our mini farm also provides wonderful opportunities to connect with nature, sustainability, science and early childhood learning in a way that feels natural and meaningful to children.
There is always something happening on the farm, whether it is watching the alpacas wander around, checking on the sheep, patting the goats, saying hello to the horse, feeding the birds or simply stopping to observe the animals and see what they are up to.
Come and See Our Mini Farm!
We believe children learn best when they can experience, explore and get involved, and our farm gives them a unique opportunity to do exactly that.
Come and visit Aussie Adventures Child Care & Kindergarten and see our mini farm for yourself — we would love to show you around and introduce you to some of our very special farm residents!
